SModcast
Mark has been listening to this for a while now, and I have been meaning to, but just never got around to it… Well a few weeks ago I finally did, and in that time managed to get from episode one to the current episode 73… Its Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier talking smack basically… It is great dry humour, but I must say that the past few episodes, where Smith has been stoned, it hasn’t quite kept its sharp wit, and Smith continually cuts off Mosier which is just annoying… Overall though, I would definitely say that if you haven't heard it, you should… I just hope that his latest weed obsession isn't going to be long term...

Miami Ink

Miami ink
We started this on season 5, which I might say was thoroughly enjoyable, so then we moved on to 1… I found it interesting the 1 gives you a much clearer view of the process of getting tattooed, including the pain factor, which is all left behind by season 5… There is also some pretty amateur camera work, and scene set ups, but it maintains the essence, and reason that there have been so many seasons and spin offs… I would have to say that Ami and nunez are the two worst artists on rotation, but they are the owners, so at least they have made good hiring choices... Since becoming addicted to this series all day I dream about ink... Looking forward to the next installment... Oh and the photo below is just because Ami's body is hot to death...

Karate Kids remake

Looks like Jackie Chan is set to star in The Karate Kid remake... A move designed by Will Smith to get his son Jaden Smith to act opposite him in the starring role...

Blegh...

Not impressed... I love the original...

The L Word Spin Off

In its pilot stage is The L Word spin off, with Leisha Hailey (Alice Pieszecki) going to jail and the series following her jail experience... In a less gritty then HBOs Oz female prison drama... Hope it gets the go ahead...

Wall-E DVD release

Before this was in the movies I saw the mechanical talking Wall E in Borders, which turned me right off… I couldn’t ignore all of the glowing reviews, so we finally watched it… The animation was crazy realistic, the first few minutes I was totally gobsmacked by it… Then the lack of spoken word started to bother me, and I was wondering whether there was going to be any talking, and it was mildly beginning to drive me crazy… Zoom forward to the cruise ship, and I fell in love with the concept... For a children's film its very relevant and makes you think... The story was definitely absorbing, I didn't think about the concept of time until it was over... Would highly recommend it...

Tegan and Sara at Palace Melbourne 09.01.09

Tegan and Sara
Palace Theatre
Melbourne
09.01.09
$56.20

After their last show at the forum, my expectations were high… And to start I will say that they were fulfilled… Playing at the Palace (the old metro) the sound was crystal clear, wherever we stood, eventually settling for the back as I feel vulnerable with this bub riding up front... Starting at 11.30 - past my bedtime, we arrived about 20 mins before they were due on stage, and they were prompt, which always excites me… They moved through their set list effortlessly, with candid stories that they are known for… A couple of versions of their songs didn’t do them justice, but overall it was a great choice of songs and composition… They played for an hour and a half, I could have stood there for another hour of it meant hearing some of their older songs… Am glad I withstood the weight of my baby for the experience, I will definitely be catching them again...

Victoria Beckham for Armani

After her husband before her, Victoria Beckham has signed a multi million dollar deal with Armani to be their bitch... She looks surprisingly good, but he looked better ;)

Notorious

Its coming, not without controversy... Premiered already in NYC... Am looking forward to this film...

'He was beloved by many, worshiped by more when he was gunned on the streets of Los Angeles. Now, some 11 years later after his death, director George Tillman Jr. and studio Fox Searchlight will attempt to resurrect the legend that was Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace (aka Biggie Small). The highly anticipated bio-pic, Notorious, follows his days on the rough streets of Brooklyn to his supreme reign on the hip-hop charts. Featuring newcomer Jamal Woolard, a fellow rapper who goes by the name “Gravy”, as Notorious B.I.G. So uncanny was his transformation into character that friends and family of Biggie Small would walked out during the filming process, for Woolard’s likeness still invoked deep emotions among those who knew Small.' via www.hypebeast.com
Lil Kim isnt happy with the portrayal of her in it though...
Kim's people released the following statement on her behalf:
"The film studio and producers involved were more concerned about painting me as a 'character' to create a more interesting story line instead of a person with talent, self-respect and who was able to achieve her own career success through hard work… Even though my relationship with Big was at times very difficult and complicated (as with most relationships we have all experienced at one time or another), it was also genuine and built on great admiration and love for each other. Regardless of the many lies in the movie and false portrayal of me to help carry a story line through, I will still continue to carry his legacy through my hard work and music."

Barbie x Stila

As Barbie celebrates her 50th birthday this year she moves into the world of cosmetics, with Stila... Am a fan of Stila products, but I highly doubt that people buying this will be using them... (as I say while my Fafi x MAC stuff all still sits in their box 9 months later)

'The limited edition collection “features four Decades of Beauty cans, each $40, with a booklet inside describing the beauty and fashion wardrobes for each doll.”
#1 Ponytail Doll, celebrates the first Barbie, launched in 1959. It includes a red lipstick called Ponytail, a liquid eyeliner and a three-pan paper-wrapped compact with two eye shadows and a cheek color.
Malibu Barbie, which highlights the doll of the same name that launched in 1971, has a pale pink Lip Glaze called Malibu, a black mascara and a compact with two eye shadows and a bronzer.
Foxy Doll, which depicts the African-American Barbie launched in 1980, includes a Lip Glaze called Foxy, mascara and a compact with two eye shadows and a cheek color.
Jewel Doll, is based on the 2000 Barbie of the same name and includes a bright pink Lip Glaze called Jewel, a Multi-Effect Mascara and a compact with two eye shadows and a cheek color.
Stila also will launch a new version of its patent-pending talking palette with tips and tools on how to get the Barbie look. As with the beauty cans, this product, which will retail for $40, will be available only at Sephora and sephora.com.”
The line will make its debut exclusively at Sephora next month and will be available at Sephora’s Fifth Avenue store in New York, international Sephora locations and at sephora.com only. Note, the collection is not limited to the US market only, they will do fashion shows around the world and distribute products globally. Japan will be one of the first international spot.'

Melbourne Victory vs Sydney FC 27th Dec 08

Santogold - Billboard - 5th Jan 09

Santogold
Billboard
www.billboardthevenue.com.au
5th January 2009

The minute these tickets went on sale I bought ours... I knew that I would be massively pregnant, but I did not care, what I cared about was seeing this lady that I so enjoy in my car on a daily basis...

It sold out, and was packed, I did feel a little bit vulnerable, but it was worth every second!!! She came on almost on time, with her DJ (who I didn't enjoy prior to her set) and her hype girls, who I must say were dope... Thy really brought a lot to the show, even though their interaction was minimal... She cruised through her set list with no difficulty, singing and dancing, hitting all of the notes immaculately! It did help that Billboard still has effing superior sound (after all this time) so the clarity was fantastic, and you really could hear every lyric...

If you ever get a chance to see her, do it!

The only downside was not being in the front row...

Madonna for Louis Vuitton

Stolen from Perezhilton.com
I dont usually find Madonna hot... Not for many years... As she gets older I find her grinding her punani into my tv screen really off putting, I fail to see any sort of class in her aging... Until now...
Her campaign for Louis Vuitton is beautiful in the truest sense of the word... I had to share it...

Kung Fu Panda

I wasnt sure what to expect with this, but the first thing you will notice is that it looks really good... Awesome animation! Jack Black makes Po lovable, and with an all star cast that brings their all to each of their characters, its a great story that looks this good, definitely recommend it for adults as well as kids...
'"Kung Fu Panda" features Jack Black as Po the Panda, a lowly waiter in a noodle restaurant, who is a kung fu fanatic but whose shape doesn't exactly lend itself to kung fu fighting. In fact, Po's defining characteristic appears to be that he is the laziest of all the animals in ancient China. That's a problem because powerful enemies are at the gates, and all hopes have been pinned on a prophesy naming Po as the "Chosen One" to save the day. A group of martial arts masters are going to need a black belt in patience if they are going to turn this slacker panda into a kung fu fighter before it's too late. -- © DreamWorks '

Burn After Reading

This I did want to see at the cinema, but we were too early at one time and too late at another... I am glad... My expectation that it would be funny, but it just come off as confused, that they were trying so hard to make all of these lives correlate... I guess they pulled it off, but not well... If you like other Coen brothers films you will like this, I just don't fit into that category... I didnt think it sucked, but I wouldn't watch it again...

'With their overtly comedic follow-up BURN AFTER READING, the Coen Brothers return--about a third of the way--from the dark, dank recesses of the human psyche they traversed in their Oscar-winning NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. For those unfamiliar with the landscape of modern movie psychoanalysis, this puts the fraternal filmmakers square in the cruel, misanthropic, and farcical realm of their 1990s-era body of work, somewhere between the tragicomic crime thriller of FARGO and the disconnected noir-homage anti-storytelling of THE BIG LEBOWSKI, with 2007's NO COUNTRY retroactively adding new nihilism-tinged dimensions of smart skepticism to the proceedings. In a more linear trajectory, BURN AFTER READING also stands as the third entry, after BLOOD SIMPLE and FARGO, in what could be an unofficial Tragedy of Human Idiocy trilogy, wherein characters make the most outlandishly moronic moves to devastating consequences simply by adhering to true human behavior. Indeed, Carter Burwell's emotionally weighty score, which washes over biting scenes of explosive, anesthetizing belly laughs, is very reminiscent of his FARGO work. BURN is ostensibly structured and propelled by a spy-thriller plotline involving a classified CD lost by a disgraced CIA spook and found by two simple gym employees. But, in actuality, it's simply--amazingly--a collection of brilliant caricature studies interwoven by veracious, if Coenesque, social interactions, as epitomized by the pathos of the Frances McDormand character's precipitous quest for cosmetic surgery. The CIA superior who learns of the film's events (always second-hand and sometimes along with the viewer) doesn't know what to make of it, and why would he? This is the first Coen film in almost 20 years not shot by cinematographer Roger Deakins, yet the "new" guy, Emmanuel Lubezki (CHILDREN OF MEN), has created as visceral and emotionally fraught a high-definition cartoon as any since BARTON FINK.' www.rottentomatoes.com

The Bucket List

When this was at the movies I thought it might be worth checking, but not worth going out for... We watched it as a part of my life on the couch and it was well worth it... It debuted to mixed reviews, but I found the performances and the sentiment to be touching and would definitely recommend it... It is a bit sad, and has no problem pulling the heart strings, but its a really nice, well told story... Even Mark liked it!
'Academy Award winners Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman star in the comedy drama "The Bucket List," directed by Rob Reiner, a touching, no-holds-barred adventure that shows it's never too late to live life to its fullest. A long time ago, Carter Chambers' (Morgan Freeman) freshman year philosophy professor suggested that his students compose a "bucket list," a collection of all the things they wanted to do, see and experience in life before they kicked the bucket. But while Carter was still trying to define his private dreams and plans, reality intruded. Marriage, children, myriad responsibilities and, ultimately, a 46-year job as an auto mechanic gradually turned his concept of a bucket list into little more than a bittersweet memory of lost opportunities and a mental exercise he occasionally thought about to pass the time while working under the hood of a car. Meanwhile, corporate billionaire Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) never saw a list without a bottom line. He was always too busy making money and building an empire to think about what his deeper needs might be beyond the next big acquisition or cup of gourmet coffee. Then life delivered an urgent and unexpected wake-up call to both of them. Carter and Edward found themselves sharing a hospital room with plenty of time to think about what might happen next--and about how much of that was in their hands. For all their apparent differences, they soon discovered they had two very important things in common: an unrealized need to come to terms with who they were and the choices they'd made, and a pressing desire to spend the time they had left doing everything they ever wanted to do. The list wasn't just a mental exercise anymore. It was an agenda. So, against doctor's orders and all good sense, these two virtual strangers check themselves out of the hospital and hit the road together for the adventure of a lifetime--from the Taj Mahal to the Serengeti, the finest restaurants to the seediest tattoo parlors, the cockpit of vintage race cars to the open door of a prop plane--with just a sheet of paper and their passion for life to guide them. Adding and crossing items off their list while taking in the grandeur and beauty of the world, they will grapple with the difficult questions and the even more difficult answers that plague all of us. And, without even realizing it, become true friends. With humor, insight, heart...and a fair amount of attitude. Sometimes you just need a deadline to get your life in gear. --© Warner Bros. '
